Which Dating App is Best for You

Katie Campbell

We all know the struggle of finding a companion whether it’s someone just for a night or the rest of your life. Dating sites and apps are nothing new. There are one or two out there for each one of us that can help us find whatever or whoever we are looking for. Let this be your quick guide of the best dating apps.

Tinder

Now, here's a classic. No matter your gender identity, sexual orientation, or personal interests, Tinder will help you find the person you're looking for. This app can sometimes get a bad -- or good depending on how you look at it -- rep for solely being used as a late night b**ty call platform, however, we can attest that it is more than that. Tinder’s match, chat, date system sparks hilarious first-time interactions with someone that you may just actually develop a meaningful connection with. It is an easy way to break the ice and get to know someone without the pressure of a first or blind date.

Whether you’re looking to find a one-time hookup or looking to connect with someone on a deeper level, we highly suggest you use Tinder as an icebreaker and facilitator.

Bumble

Bumble is transforming the way people meet each other. What was once solely a dating app, has now expanded to be a meeting place for business professionals and friendly companionships. Bumble has rewritten the rules of dating by lifting the stigma that men need to make the first move in a romantic encounter. They have built the app so that the woman is the first person to begin the conversation once a match has been made. Their goal is to “change the archaic rules of the dating game so that you can form meaningful relationships in a respectful way”.

After talking to many male and female friends that use Bumble, we have found that many of them prefer when women make the first move. Males find it attractive, simplified, and a nice change of pace to have the ball in the other genders court when it comes to first-time connection. Females, have found this method to be empowering and a safe way to interact with someone that you have yet to meet. Many women struggle on apps such as Tinder to feel comfortable going out to meet someone they don't know, whereas Bumble allows the woman to make the first move and make sure they feel in control.

Bumble also is a time-sensitive dating app. Once a heterosexual match has been made, the woman has 24 hours to make the first move and the man has 24 hours to respond. In same-sex matches, either person has 24 hours to make the first move. After 24 hours, the match expires. This prompts users to be bold and encourages first-time connections.

Whether you’re looking for love, networking, or to expand your social circle, Bumble is the way to go! We also suggest using Bumble in larger urban areas as opposed to Tinder because we have found that Tinder can be more saturated in larger cities.

OkCupid

The previous two apps discussed have a typically younger target demographic and are largely used for one-time encounters. If you are looking for something more intimate, long-term, and for someone that aligns with your specific interests we suggest turning to OkCupid.

OkCupid specializes in matching like-minded individuals that have compatible personalities, interests, and life goals. After downloading the app your first step is to answer a set of questions that helps their algorithm find out your deal breakers and the things you care about most in a relationship. Using this, OkCupid sets you up with potential partners that align with your values. Their messaging system then helps you make the first move with first message suggestions based on your common interests and personality traits.

If you’re looking for love this is the app for you.
